There is so much to do in D.C.!  These are a few of our favorites.

Do

The Smithsonian Museums
One of the best things about DC is its abundance of wonderful museums, most of which have free admission!  Be sure to check out the National Air and Space Museum (Bradley's favorite) and the Museum of American History (Anna's).

The National Zoo
The National Zoo, located in Rock Creek Park, is a great stop for kids and grownups alike!  Admission is free.  Be sure to say hello the Giant Pandas.  We recommend taking the Metro's red line to the Woodley Park stop, as parking can be very difficult on weekends.

Monuments
A self-guided walking tour of some of DC's beautiful monuments is hard to beat on a fall day.  We especially love the Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR. Be sure to take photos!

Georgetown
This historic neighborhood is a special place to spend a day.  There are great shops (mostly concentrated on M Street and Wisconsin Avenue), fun restaurants, and beautiful homes to look at.  We recommend a stroll through Dumbarton Oaks or the Georgetown University campus.

Rock Creek Park
This 2,000+ acre park is one of DC's greatest treasures.  We love it for bike rides (Bradley), runs (Anna), and long walks.

President Lincoln's Cottage
This truly special place is off the beaten path of tourist DC and is one of our favorite spots in the city.  President Lincoln and his family spent summers at this home four miles from the White House, and he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation here.  Tours are offered throughout the day--we recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time to ensure your spot.  President Lincoln's Cottage is best reached by car (ample parking is available) or Uber/taxi.

See DC by water!
Some of the best views of the Washington skyline can be found from the Potomac River.  Anna and her dad have both watched many sunrises from early morning crew practices.  Kayaks and canoes can be rented at Thompson Boat Center.  Wave hello to Rock Creek Rowing, Pete's team, if you see any of their rowers!
